Reading was encouraged with seating integrated into the bookshelves to enable the students to select a title and then sit and dip into it immediately

Overview

When the children returned to school after the summer holidays, a surprise awaited them as the Rubens Library had been completely renovated and redecorated. The red metal bookshelves, old seats and carpet gave way to a brand new library. The brief was to create a space where reading was encouraged, with seating integrated into the bookshelves and cosy, quiet places to enjoy a story.

The Zioxi Bookworm was perfect for this approach, as the curved shelves of varying heights could divide the space, whilst also helping to guide you through the space. In between the shelving units, child height benches provided the perfect height for students to sit and enjoy a book. Comfort is very important when choosing furniture, so all of our S41 soft seating is upholstered using high density foam. Fabrics were chosen that are resistant to dirt and easy to clean, and this keeps them looking fresh. The images of the Rubens library were taken one year after the installation has taken place and everything still looks brand new!

“ The primary school pupils loved the new space and tell us it is much easier to search for books they like. They quickly felt at home on the colourful seat cushions, at one of the fold-out tables or in a reading nook”
