Zioxi furniture enabled the integration of multilayered complex IT and state of the art audio visual equipment

Overview

The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine sought to design a modern, dynamic Active Learning Lab that fostered collaboration, deep thinking, and student engagement. Active learning requires an environment that encourages participation, group work, and knowledge sharing, which in turn necessitates flexible, innovative, and functional furniture. To meet these demands, the school selected Zioxi’s integrated M1 collaborative desks as the ideal solution for their new lab space.

Challenges

The design of the Active Learning Lab needed to accommodate a wide range of activities:

• Collaborative learning: The space needed to encourage teamwork, analysis, and peer learning.
• Technology integration: Students required access to both desktop computers and laptops, with the flexibility to switch between them easily.
• Multipurpose functionality: The room needed to be flexible to serve multiple uses, from traditional lectures to group-based tasks, requiring adaptable furniture that would not hinder student movement or the sharing of ideas.

An Innovative and Flexible Space

The new Active Learning Lab at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine is now an innovative and flexible space designed to promote collaboration, critical thinking, and knowledge sharing.

• Dual Screen Setup: Each desk featured dual screens at the end, promoting collaboration by allowing students to share images, presentations, or documents with their peers at the same desk or across the room. This feature enhanced the exchange of ideas and enabled seamless teamwork on projects.
• Retractable Technology: The flexibility of the M1 desks was key to meeting the needs of the space. Each desk was equipped with a retractable mechanism—by simply pressing a button, students could reveal the monitor, mouse, and keyboard hidden within the desk. This feature ensured that computers were readily available for use but could be concealed when not needed, allowing for easy laptop use and a clutter-free environment.
• Color Differentiation: To further organize the space, different colors were used to differentiate each group of desks. This visual distinction helped students quickly identify their workstation while adding vibrancy to the overall design.
• Comfortable Seating: The final touch involved the inclusion of comfortable chairs that support the long hours of study.

By integrating technology with flexible, functional furniture, the school has created a state-of-the-art learning space that is both practical and inspiring.
