The existing hall space at Alexis Street was going to be refurbished and transformed into a brand new library and LRC space for the Key Stage 2 pupils. The school requested that the hall space was split in half into two distinct learning areas. They were keen to use furniture to divide the spaces, so that the open plan feel to the whole space was retained.
The zioxi furniture proposal included dividing the space with a large BookWorm that would span the entire width of the LRC. On one side there is a large area filled with storage for the library books, soft seating and small group working areas. On the other side of the space, the school wanted to have lots of tables to allow a class of up to 18 students to be able to work comfortably.
The BookWorm really creates the “Wow” factor when you enter the space. There is even a bridged section which allows the children and staff to walk right through the curved bookshelves.
For the classroom style set-up, the school were keen to introduce mobile charging facilities so that children could use their laptops and mobile devices throughout the space. The Agile 60 degree t41 desks are arranged in clusters around mobile rechargeable powerHubs which provide both mains power through three pin plugs and USB. The powerHubs are set to email an alert when they are in need of a charge where they can be plugged into the mains power. The auto green schedule will pick the greenest times to charge based on web connection via wifi to the national grid. Throughout the rest of the space zioxi created a fun and colourful breakout type area with bright soft seating that match the colours on the bookworm and t chairs.
