Zioxi Ltd has just released a significant development to their onView platform. From January 2025, all users of Zioxi onView will be able to automatically recharge their mobile devices using Charging Trolleys, Charging Lockers and powerHubs when electricity is at it’s lowest cost. The onView system is integrated with the National Electricity Grids and determines the optimum time in each 24 hour period to start charging, to maximise the use of low cost energy. The added advantage is that this also means that charging takes place when electricity generation is the cleanest and lowest carbon intensity.

A Drive Towards Net Zero
In many European countries, the price of electricity can fluctuate immensely during a 24 hour period. The most expensive (and carbon intense) time to recharge devices is often between 4pm and 7pm, just when schools, businesses and other organisations put away their IT devices to recharge ready for the next day. Using information from the National Electricity Grids, the Energy Optimiser tool allows an organisation to set their operational hours so that their laptops, tablets or smart phones are charged and ready for use when they need to be. The added benefit, is that the Zioxi Energy Optimiser will automatically recharge devices at the smartest time (low cost & low carbon) therefore helping an organisation to reduce their carbon footprint and helping many organisations with their drive towards Net Zero.

Decarbonisation is a Key Priority
The shift away from carbon based electricity generation (Coal, Gas and Oil) to renewables such wind, solar and hydro, and the way that we generate and use electricity is undergoing a “profound, once in a generation change”*1 . In the UK the Government has secured £24bn for clean energy investment *2, and in Germany the Federal Government has mandated in law the use of a Smart Meter Gateway for any organisation using 6,000kWh per year *3.
With energy security and decarbonisation a key priority for most national Governments these changes are progressing fast. Changing when organisations and households use electricity is seen as a key factor for success in these initiatives.
